This
year's summer vacation is something along the lines of what they are
referring to as a "staycation." In reality, this was motivated by
the fact that our first idea for a holiday took us up through Lillooet,
then down through the Okanagon Valley. Since both of these had bad forest fires this year, and since we have already had two summer holidays going through forest fires, we thought we'd stick to somewhere smoke free for the sake of variety. So,
it seemed like a good time to explore and re-visit some of the area
close to where we live. We started out by camping...
...at Bamberton Provincial Park! We got a bit of a late start
getting out of Victoria, and a whopping 40 minutes later we decided to
call it a day and spend our first night ever camping at this park.
Turns out it is a really nice park!
The campground is located up a hill from the water, but a short hike
brings you down to the Saanich inlet. We headed down and sat on
the little rocky beach for a while and watched twilight settle in on
Brentwood Bay and other parts of the penninsula.
It was
a great way to start the holiday. It also seemed strange to be
looking over at the Saanich penninsula from the other side. I
spend a lot of time biking up there and looking over at this side.
We went hiking on the hills that Cheryl is looking at just a
couple of months ago.
That's the trail down to the beach...we got pretty familiar with it!
